The Bob Marley Foundation Ltd
The Marley Family has chosen the Bob Marley Foundation Ltd. as the charity to receive 5% of all proceeds from the sale of Marley merchandise on Zionrootswear.com. The Bob Marley Foundation is a dynamic philanthropy which enables individuals, groups, and communities in developing nations, particularly Jamaica and Africa. The foundation creates and implements or provides support for programs that assist in the empowerment of the oppressed and contribute to the elimination of generational poverty through sustainable projects.
The Foundation seeks to alleviate hunger and poverty by providing financial support and resources for both immediate needs and long-term projects. The foundation is currently implementing and/or supporting humanitarian initiatives in Jamaica, Ethiopia and Ghana. In Jamaica, the Trench Town Redevelopment Project maintains the legacy of Bob Marley in the area of Kingston that was the birthplace of "The Wailers." The Trench Town Redevelopment Project consists of a community centre, library, and small museum.
Current projects include:
• Scholarships/fellowships for youth and other qualified individuals to attend academic and/or trade institutions in the Caribbean and Africa.
• Continuing education classes, seminars, workshops presented by professionals in the arts, entertainment, music, and sports industry which will increase opportunities and employment for beneficiaries.
• Capital improvement drives for institutions to improve safety and overall environment of their facility to serve the needs of recipients.
• Programs, concerts, exhibitions and all forms of artistic performances which assist in disseminating the message of peace, justice, equality and human rights through music and art.
• Tours and exhibitions which promote the appreciation of culture and diversity utilizing the talents of local and international artisans and heighten the awareness of a myriad of human rights issues including health, socioeconomics, education and the eradication of poverty and injustice.
• Counseling and mentoring resources to empower recipients and ensure sustainable economic, health and general welfare development.
• Education materials, and other printed materials to educate recipients
