Ziggy and Bob Marley

The Wagner/Cuban Company’s Magnolia Pictures has acquired US rights to MARLEY, the definitive documentary about legendary musician Bob Marley, directed by Academy Award-winner Kevin Macdonald (One Day in September, The Last King of Scotland). Produced by Steve Bing (Shangri-La Entertainment) and Charles Steel, and executive produced by Bob’s son Ziggy Marley and Island Records founder Chris Blackwell, MARLEY will have its world premiere at the 62^nd Berlin International Film Festival in February, and its North American premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, TX in March.

 

The film will open in theaters on Friday, April 20^th, launching day and date with all VOD and digital platforms.

 

VH1 has come onboard to license the first TV Window of the film as part of their Emmy-Award winning VH1 Rock Doc franchise and will work with Magnolia and the filmmakers to promote the film across their music lover channel.

 

Made with the unprecedented support of the Marley family, MARLEY is the first film to tell the definitive life story of the musician, revolutionary, and legend, from his earliest days to his rise to international superstardom. Along with an incredible soundtrack, the film features rare footage, archival photos, and incredible performances and interviews with his family, friends, and bandmates – the people that knew him best. The film is sure to be a revelation to Bob Marley fans, of which there are many (the triple-platinum artist has nearly 35 million fans on his Facebook page alone), and newcomers alike.

38th Anniversary of the Release of the Bob Marley & the Wailers 'Burnin' LP

In 1973 on October 19th, Bob Marley & the Wailers unleashed their 'Burnin' LP on the the world. 'Live Forever' - Bob Marley's Final Performance in Pittsburgh, PA on 9.23.1980        

        31 years ago today, Bob Marley played his final performance in Pittsburgh, PA. This concert was in support of his new phenomenal release, 'Uprising'. Two nights previous, Bob had played New York City and fell ill while jogging in Central Park, but he wanted to honour the sold out show in Pittsburgh. The historic moment was captured for generations to bare witness to the greatness of Bob Marley & the Wailers. Their final tour de force was a defiantly revolutionary celebration of the man, his music & his message.

Stephen Marley Conquers Jacksonville        

        Flanked by the soldiers of the "Jah Army", Stephen Marley's "The Root of Life Tour" invaded Jacksonville Beach, Florida & conquered the Freebird Live crowd with their roots reggae sound. Like a 4 star Rastafarian general, Marley commanded the packed house of reggae fans with an energetic & explosive mix of songs off his Grammy award winning album, "Mind Control", and his critically acclaimed newly released, "Revelation Part I: The Root of Life". And let's not forget, his emotional performances of a few timeless classics by his legendary father, Bob Marley.       

        The night began with DJ Gee Fus hyping up the crowd into a frenzied state as they awaited Stephen Marley & his band to take the stage. As Stephen Marley appeared, it was instantly obvious to anyone in attendance that this was going to be a night to remember. From the beginning to the end of the show, Marley engaged the crowd with infectious chants of "Rastafari" & encouraged everyone to join in the reggae celebration.

        

Stephen Marley was perfectly complimented by his extremely talented band consisting of Christpher Meredith on Bass, Ranoy Gordon on Guitar, Nicholas Laraque on Sax/Flute, Bowie McLaughlin on Keys, Squidly Cole on Drums, Llamar "Riff Raff" Brown on Keys, and supporting vocalists Erica Newell & Rochelle Bradshaw.

Countless global brands have turned to CMD for Cedella's avant garde fashion sense to update their company's image & brand. In addition to consulting with brands, Cedella developed her own line entitled, Nice Time which showcases a tailored bohemian style fit with retro prints & vivid colors. Perhaps her biggest accolade to date as a designer was being chosen in association with Puma to design the Jamaican Track & Field Team Uniforms for the 2012 Olympics. Her contributions can be heard on various motion picture soundtracks, both as a performer & composer. Her latest foray into the film industry is sure to be an enormous success. Tuff Gong Pictures in association with Shangri-La Entertainment have entrusted Oscar winning director Kevin Macdonald to make the long awaited Bob Marley biopic entitled, "Marley". Macdonald is best known for such highly acclaimed films as "Touching the Void", "One Day in September", "The Eagle" & "The Last King of Scotland". The Marley family is working very closely developing the film with the director. This close union insures that Bob Marley will be portrayed in a manner befitting an icon of his stature. Literary Accomplishments

        As an author, Cedella Marley has more than proven her merit in multiple literary circles, especially in the realm of children's books. Her first published work was a collection of 56 sayings & psalms by her father which she carefully selected & organized into the book, "56 Thoughts". She meticulously choose appropriate words & thoughts from her father to soothe the reader's soul & penetrate the reader's mind. The book was enormously well received. 
        Shortly thereafter, her focus shifted towards children as the vehicle to spread Bob Marley's message & legacy of love. This was a natural progression in her career as an author & humanitarian; Bob's powerful message is simple at its core. It can be easily understood by children & become instilled in their developing value system. The most innocent mind is required to understand the most universal message. Cedella Marley had realized that fact, and as a result, found an ideal audience to carry on the legacy & the message of her father.
        Her second literary work was a children's book entitled, "Three Little Birds". The book revolved around the lyrics & personal vision of Bob Marley's classic song "Three Little Birds". The book was a big hit due to a perfect recipe of rich vibrant illustrations, unique blending of media arts, & simply powerful lyrical text. The message of "Three Little Birds" is universal to readers of all ages. We all aspire to regain the innocence of faith that we knew only as children! The book has a soothing tone and combines various methods of literary delivery to convey its simple message of love & faith. 
        Her second children's book & third literary work focused on her father's life as a young boy in Jamaica. The book deals with pertinent social issues that children are facing today & Bob Marley faced as a young child, like the absence of a father. The book features distinct artful sketches that capture the unique landscape & culture of Nine Mile & Kingston in Jamaica during the time of Marley's childhood. In true humanitarian spirit, Cedella Marley's second children's book teaches her young audience valuable life lessons through the trials & tribulations of her father growing up in Jamaica. 
        Cedella Marley has a new children's book slated for a late October publication date. The book is aptly entitled, "One Love". It is based on the enormously popular song sung by her father and will be published by Chronicle Books. "One Love" has been highly anticipated due to her previous literary achievements. The basis of the work being one the most recognizable & successful Bob Marley songs of all time, "One Love", has added to the anticipation of its publication. The universality of its core message is unparalleled & will provide a perfect platform for Cedella to bring her father's beautiful lyrics to life for children all over the world. Stephen Marley Opens The Hard Rock Beach Club in Las Vegas

        Along with the Ghetto Youth Crew, Damian Marley, Mr. Cheeks, & Stone Love, Stephen Marley christened the brand new Hard Rock Beach Club in Las Vegas last night. Jah Army was in full effect! The crowd repeatedly erupted in chants of "Rastafari" as Stephen gave arresting performances of his late father's classics, 'Three Little Birds' & 'Jamming'. Along with these stunning renditions, the crowd had the opportunity to be blown away by tracks off his critically acclaimed & hugely successful new record, 'Revelation Part 1: The Root of Life'. One of the many highlights was his performance of 'No Cigarette Smoking' off his new album. Kudos to the Las Vegas Hard Rock Beach Club for choosing such a charismatic artist as Stephen Marley to launch their new club!
